OVERTON 4-H CHICK CHAIN AUCTION DATE SET FOR SEPTEMBER 7TH

September 7th at 10:30 am Overton 4-H will hold their annual Chick Chain Auction at the Ag1 CO-OP in Livingston.  4-H youth raise layer breed chickens from day-old chicks to laying hens through the program.  This year 15 families picked from Lavender Orpington, Black Austrolorp, and Barred Rock breeds to raise for their backyard flock.  The program teaches youth responsibility, ethical decision-making, and entrepreneurship skills.  The auction raises funding for the Chick Chain program to continue each year by purchasing chicks for youth to raise. Laying hens are purchased in lots of three at the auction and we will accept cash or check.  If you are interested in bidding on these laying hens raised by Overton County youth please contact the UT/TSU Extension office by calling 931-823-2735 Monday through Friday 7:30 AM – 4:00 PM.  Bidders should arrive no later than 10:15 am on Saturday, September 7th, youth will be competing in showmanship, bird quality, and other contests starting at 9:45 am.  Come out and support these youth entrepreneurs, they are raising some of the best quality laying hens in our county.
