Pickers Palace Celebrates a Decade

Posted

What began as a vision for local entrepreneur Darrell Gore in late 2014 has blossomed into a cornerstone of Livingston’s vibrant downtown.

Pickers Palace is proudly celebrating its 10th anniversary on July 1, 2025, marking a decade of growth from a single renovated building into a bustling hub for antiques, local crafts, and community connection across two unique locations on the courthouse square.

An Overton County native, Gore acquired the original Pickers Palace 1 building in late 2014.After meticulous renovations, it opened its doors on July 1, 2015. The venture quickly proved successful, leading to swift expansion. After an extensive remodel, just a year later on May 1, 2016, Gore opened the adjacent building, effectively doubling the original location’s footprint.

The growth didn’t stop there. Recognizing the demand for booth space and unique finds, Gore expanded across the road in late 2019, securing a rental property that would become Pickers Palace 2. After preparations, the second location officially opened on January 10, 2020, with Gore solidifying his commitment by purchasing the building just a few weeks later.

Pickers Palace has thrived as a testament to the collaborative spirit of Livingston’s locally owned businesses. The courthouse square is well-known for its supportive network. Chris Speck, owner of Speck’s Funeral Home, located just down the road from Pickers Palace 1, showed early support by becoming the very first customer, purchasing an antique mirror. Furthermore, Vickie White and Rithia Winningham from The Emporium, two stores down from Pickers Palace 2, were instrumental in offering guidance and assistance during Pickers Palace’s formative stages and continue to be valued partners. In a display of true community, local store owners and employees often pop into the shop to buy snacks made by Diane Thrasher.

Both Pickers Palace 1 and 2 offer a diverse array of items for shoppers to “rummage around,” from unique antiques to locally made crafts. The business also provides vital opportunities for local individuals to showcase and sell their wares by offering booth rentals for vendors, fostering a marketplace for talent and treasures.

Pickers Palace is open Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. For more information, you can contact them at 931-823-1188.
