The Overton County community gathered for the 15th Annual EMS Fireworks Show on Saturday, June 28, at the Overton County Fairgrounds. The event, which offered a larger fireworks display this year, attracted an estimated 3,000 attendees for an evening of pyrotechnics, live music and family activities.
This year’s event marked a significant milestone, representing the show’s growth from a small gathering in 2010 to its current scale.
The Annual EMS Fireworks Show has always been completely free to the public, a point emphasized by Overton County EMS representative Roy Gore. The event’s funding comes solely from contributions by EMS employees and local sponsors, not from tax dollars. This commitment highlights the dedication of the staff and volunteers who contribute their time and resources to express gratitude to the community they serve.
Gates opened at 5 p.m., with attendees arriving to secure their viewing spots for the evening. The musical performance by Blazing Phoenix began at 6 p.m. Prior to the fireworks, One Bank of Tennessee and Overton County EMS provided complimentary hotdogs, chips and drinks.
In addition to the fireworks display, the event featured a variety of activities for families. Children’s activities included bounce houses, face painting and a petting zoo, all of which were free to attendees. The “Touch a Truck” exhibit provided an opportunity for children to view emergency vehicles up close. Representatives from various agencies, including the TBI, Homeland Security and the THP, were on-site with interactive and educational displays. Tennessee State Parks also participated, providing educational demonstrations and an appearance by “Elvis the corn snake.”
Overton County EMS operates stations in both Livingston and Hanging Limb, providing emergency services to the citizens of Overton County.
