Livingston Moves Towards Becoming a Purple Heart City

Posted

The City of Livingston is taking significant steps to officially recognize and honor its combat-wounded veterans, with Mayor Lori Elder Burnett signing a proclamation today in preparation for applying for Livingston to become a “Purple Heart City.” This initiative, championed by local advocate Ken Werner, aims to formally acknowledge the sacrifices of those who have received the Purple Heart medal.

The Purple Heart designation signifies a municipality’s deep commitment to supporting military personnel wounded or killed in action. It involves public declarations of gratitude, special events, and sometimes even specific services for Purple Heart recipients.

“The City of Livingston, Tennessee, and our community have great admiration and the utmost gratitude for all men and women who have, and are, selflessly serving their country and this community in the Armed Forces,” stated the proclamation signed by Mayor Burnett.

The proclamation further emphasized the profound sacrifices made by veterans, recognizing that “citizens of our country have received the Purple Heart as a result of being wounded or killed while engaged in combat with an enemy force, construed as a singular meritorious act of essential service.”

Mayor Burnett’s signed resolution officially proclaims the City of Livingston as a Purple Heart City, honoring the service and sacrifice of military members wounded or killed by the enemy while protecting American freedoms.

Ken Werner, who initiated the effort, is available to provide more information on the process for Livingston to achieve this meaningful designation. The move underscores Livingston’s dedication to its veterans and their families, ensuring their sacrifices are never forgotten.
