January is National Human Trafficking Prevention Month

Human Trafficking is a multi-billion dollar industry, the victims can be tricked, lied to, threatened or manipulated into working for the traffickers. 

In the 2021-2022 fiscal year the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation processed 1,268 human trafficking tips with 621 of those involving minors. The numbers grow each with the growth of the more accessible internet as well as the growth of social media use. 

According to the Human Trafficking Hotline since 2007 there has been 3,374 hotline calls, 496 SMS reports, 278 online reports, 85 emails and 39 web chats in Tennessee alone. In that same time the Human Trafficking Hotline has identified 1,231 cases of human trafficking and 2,697 victims were identified in Tennessee.
