Leadership Overton Class of 2025 Takes on Disc Golf Course Project

The Livingston-Overton County Chamber of Commerce’s Leadership Overton program has returned, and the Class of 2025 is already making its mark. This year’s participants are diving deep into the heart of Overton County.

Under the leadership of new President & CEO of the Livingston-Overton County Chamber of Commerce Zach Stephens, the class is exploring the diverse elements that contribute to the community’s vitality, including business, economic development, education, healthcare, city and county government, agriculture and industry.

A key component of the Leadership Overton program is the annual group community improvement project, designed to benefit the community. The Class of 2025 has announced its project: the construction of a new 9-hole disc golf course.

The course will be located near Dillon Pond, a recreational area situated at the corner of Celina Highway and Bradford Hicks Drive. Dillon Pond currently features a playground, pavilion, fishing dock, small amphitheater and a 0.07-mile walking track. The new disc golf course aims to enhance the pond’s offerings and provide another recreational opportunity for residents.

Disc golf, similar to traditional golf, involves throwing a disc (Frisbee) into a basket with the fewest possible throws. It’s a sport that has grown in popularity due to its accessibility to people of all ages and abilities backgrounds.

“Disc golf is designed to be enjoyed by people of all ages, making it a great lifetime fitness activity,” said Wilson Cates, President of Leadership Overton Class of 2025. “Because disc golf is so easy to learn, no one is excluded; players match their pace to their capabilities and proceed from there.”

The Leadership Overton Class of 2025 is currently fundraising for the disc golf course project. Those making a significant donation of $750 or more will have their information displayed at the hole they choose to sponsor. Donations of $250 and above will be acknowledged on a commemorative plaque and every donation under $250 will get a shoutout on social media.

Donations are being accepted in person at the Overton Department Store and American Bank and Trust in Livingston.

The Leadership Overton Class of 2025 has expressed its appreciation for the Livingston Parks Department and the support of the community in this endeavor.
